A fall outing with compassion at its center: North Shore Animal League America is inviting visitors to Adopt-A-Fest on Saturday, October 3. The organization says its campus will host family activities and adoptable pets—a seasonal gathering focused on helping rescued animals find homes.
The event brings attention to a mission that extends well beyond one festival. North Shore Animal League America describes itself as the world’s largest and longest-running no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. Its stated goal is a world where no homeless pet is euthanized and every one has a loving home.
Since its out-of-state rescue program began in 1991, the organization says that program has saved nearly 160,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Its rescue teams, mobile units and shelter partners help animals facing overcrowded shelters, puppy mills, natural disasters and other emergencies.
Care continues after rescue. In 2025, the nonprofit’s veterinary team performed 4,300 spay-and-neuter surgeries and administered more than 34,000 vaccines at its accredited Pet Health Centers. The organization also provides medical treatment and rehabilitation, alongside the daily work of caring for animals awaiting adoption.
Finding homes is a collaborative effort, too. The nonprofit reports facilitating tens of thousands of adoptions in 2025 through a network of more than 2,000 shelter partners. At its own Adoption Center, it emphasizes thoughtful, lasting placements.
For animal lovers who aren’t ready to adopt, its support options include sponsoring a pet, starting a fundraiser and giving monthly. It is also inviting supporters to register and fundraise for Walk to Rescue, marking the initiative’s tenth year.
Adopt-A-Fest offers one way to connect with that wider work: meet the animals, learn about the mission and put kindness on the fall calendar.
